SMILE is the most recent and advanced form of laser assisted refractive surgery. SMILE stands for Small Incision Lenticule Extraction and is creating a revolution in the realm of laser vision correction procedures like never before.
SMILE is the first ‘NO FLAP’ technique that makes a small 2mm cut in the cornea to remove a thin slice of corneal tissue unlike LASIK that creates a flap by cutting 28mm circumference of cornea. It uses a single femtosecond laser throughout the procedure unlike LASIK that employs an excimer laser to treat the cornea under the flap. Here the tissue damage especially to the corneal nerve fibers is almost nil as compared to other laser based procedures.
The main advantage of SMILE is that it is flapless and hence there is no chance of the flap moving or folding unlike in LASIK. As corneal nerves are untouched in SMILE the incidence of dry eye is almost nullified resulting in better patient comfort following SMILE.
The small incision and the precision of femtosecond laser in SMILE results in excellent corneal stability. The procedure is also not affected by external factors like temperature and humidity as there is no flap and results in higher treatment accuracy. With SMILE the disadvantages of older laser vision correction treatments are eliminated retaining their advantages.

As of the year 2023, the newest update to SMILE has been introduced. The new version termed "SMILE Pro" takes SMILE to the next level by making the experience even more comfortable and seamless to the patient. The laser application time in "SMILE Pro" is now only 8 seconds compared to the 22-30 seconds of laser application in the older version of SMILE SMILE Pro also now included cyclotorsion compensation which is a form of eye tracking which makes correction of high cylinder powers even more precise and accurate Uma Eye clinic is the first institution in Tamilnadu to introduce this technology to the benefit of our patients.

Finally I can see without my glasses after 18 long years! Posting this review with my normal vision with joy! I have had myopia since my childhood and recently I have done SMILE PRO with Uma Eye Clinic and my vision has been corrected to 6/6 which is the normal eye condition. The surgeon Dr. Aadithreya varman was highly skilled and took the time to explain the procedure thoroughly. The surgery itself was quick and virtually painless. Texting my review with full of happy. I visited this hospital last month for my wife. As she is wearing glasses for more than lOyears we searching for alternate choice. They started with basic tests and later done some scans. After all tests finally they sending us to Dr. Aadhithreya Varman. Doctor is patient friendly. His consulting way is really humble and more responsible. He explain us in detail about our treatment plan and options and he clarify our doubts. Finally we done Smile PRO treatment. Smile pro is most advanced and very short time than smile surgery. It's take hardly 15 mins for complete procedure to enter and out from surgery room. SMILE PRO is short and simple. Now my wife is glass free and started working from next day onwards. Not much post operative restrictions. Their Administration is well trained. Hospital is always fill with patients.
